CaMPR (Collaborative and Multidisciplinary Pilot Research Awards)
Overview
CaMPR is a two-phase funding process that provides planning and start-up funds to support the formation of newly-configured investigative teams with the aim of addressing a significant health problem at the cellular, individual or community level.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a full-time faculty appointment at the level of Assistant Professor or above.
Formation and planning activities of novel, cross-disciplinary research teams involving both senior and junior faculty from at least two of the four CUMC schools. A second school selected from the Morningside campus may be an option. In addition to the collaboration between schools, proposals with faculty from more than one department within at least one of the schools will be considered more competitive.
Phase I - Planning Grant
Duration: Four Months
Award Amount: $25,000
Quantity: 4 awards funded per application cycle
The proposed planning activities should bring together faculty with expertise from diverse disciplines and may include outside consultants with unique experience or expertise in innovative approaches not currently available on CUMC. In order to track the evolution of these multidisciplinary collaborations, planning activities must be documented as part of a progress report within the Phase II application. Because we are particularly interested in the processes utilized to produce multidisciplinary proposals, the second application will be judged in part by the methods each team developed to create its final proposal. Other criteria for selection include:
- creativity
- importance of topic under study
- meaningful involvement of junior investigators
- likelihood that the pilot proposal will progress to an NIH proposal

Duration: 1 year
Award Amount: $125,000
Quantity: 2 awards funded per application cycle
Qualifications
Applicants must have received one of the four planning grants awarded during Phase I. The top two applications from Phase I will receive a one-year, $125,000 award to support pilot work with the clear goal of submitting an NIH proposal.
The one-year, $125,000-pilot award will be granted to those who best meet the following goals of the CaMPR award program:
- establish newly-configured, multidisciplinary investigative teams involving both senior and junior faculty from at least 2 of the 4 CUMC schools,
- train and mentor a new generation of C/T investigators,
- expand and optimize the utilization of new and existing resources at CUMC,
- address a significant public health problem using novel, multidisciplinary approaches, and
- produce pilot data that are likely to lead to a major NIH-funded project
