Dear Colleagues:
In an exciting next step toward advancing well-being in the workplace, we are delighted to announce the appointment of Bernard P. In collaboration with the CUIMC Well-Being Initiative, Dr. Chang will lead an enterprise-wide program of scientific investigation into system-level factors and interventions to enhance faculty health and professional well-being. Dr. Chang assumed his new role on October 1.

In his new roles, Dr. Chang will have myriad responsibilities relevant to advancing professional well-being research, including developing and implementing new research programs at CUIMC. Dr. Chang will collaborate closely with Daichi Shimbo, MD, director of TRANSFORM and associate director of the Irving Institute, the TRANSFORM team, and the Office of Faculty Affairs and Development to develop and expand faculty and career mentorship programs. He will work alongside the Irving Institute’s Evaluation and Continuous Improvement team on strategies for evaluating research career development, mentoring, and well-being programs in the context of clinical and transitional science. Dr. Chang also will submit applications for grants to support development of research programs in faculty well-being and mentorship, including within the CTSA grant renewal process.
Dr. Chang is the Tushar Shah and Sara Zion Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine and Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Emergency Medicine in VP&S. Dr. Chang received his PhD in psychology from Harvard, his MD from Stanford, and completed his emergency medicine residency at Harvard Medical School (Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital).
Dr. Chang’s experience will help us develop and enrich programs that are so important to the well-being of our community. We look forward to working with him in the years to come. Please join us in welcoming Bernard to this new role.
