REDCap Data Collection Platform

This service is provided by Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Design (BERD).

Overview

The Irving Institute hosts an installation of REDCap, the widely-used electronic data capture (EDC) platform. REDCap is a secure web application for building and managing online surveys and databases. Developed by a consortium of institutions and initiated and maintained by Vanderbilt University, REDCap allows users to create and use their own custom online data collection systems. Users can create  participant-facing surveys and user-facing data entry forms with multi-visit and multi-site protocols, all with a minimum of programming experience. While REDCap can be used to collect virtually any type of data in any environment (including compliance with 21 CFR Part 11, FISMA, HIPAA, and GDPR), it is specifically geared to support online and offline data capture for research studies and operations.

While REDCap is appropriate for many research applications, its history as a survey tool does impose some limits which present challenges for complex databases and protocols. If you are not sure if REDCap is appropriate for your project, you can schedule a Data Management Consultation to explore the data management resources available to you.

In addition to basic access to REDCap, the Irving Institute also offers extensive technical support, programming assistance, and custom programming services, all on a fee-for-service basis.
